I'd rather not do that for three reasons.
First of all, it clearly penalizes certain classes serving certain factions. Under that system, Ninja who aren't serving Ordallia don't get to visit the academy.
Second, used a magic academy that was so horrifically unbalanced they had to basically destroy the entire city. Rewarding JP/XP for RPing sounds great, but it's hugely problematic in terms of balance. It also didn't help that guys like Rob were the ones who benefited the most (because, at that point, it looks like you're giving advantages to SimRTK staff).
Third, certain classes already have canonical roots in certain locations. The Lancer, for instance, features some of the same motifs as Romanda; Summoners (namely the manipulation of super-powerful spirits) fits Ordallian lore. Geomancers come from way northeast, from Jahara, which is about twice as far from Viura as Mullonde is. And Samurai/Ninja obviously come from the Orient, crazy far off the map.
It's an interesting idea, but because of how this game is balanced (ie, it's a competitive game rather than a cooperative one), it's just not viable for us.
Kablizzy: I kept the names primarily because that was the easiest thing to do since I had no idea what I was doing wit Zelamonia at the time. It's a bit of fan service, I suppose, but it wasn't intentional.

I would like to be able to include academies in the game. Just because Gariland was broken in HoI shouldn't mean we can't come up with something interesting and original on our own. Plus, the more RP locations the better I say. They shouldn't have to be anything uber or anything you have to invest in.

As long as it's something that's purely optional, sure, let's do it. I just think it'll be impossible to balance "optional academy" with everything else. Like training and doing MHs on the side.

Academies/Mage Towers (Seriously tho that's the quinessential mage HQ) could probably be added in as one of those small settlements, having a bonus stat in knowledge/techwhatever stat that we might come up with in Kingdom management. Apart from that, yeah, RP.

Kingdom management isn't a thing here. It's entirely player-focused and kingdoms detract from that (hence why you can't directly join the ruling forces of Romanda, Ordallia, or Ivalice).
There's also the matter of staffers being required to handhold people through these 'academies.' I think that's a rather bad idea when you consider we're going to be running a plethora of MHs and props already.

Aye, good point. And would depend on the number of RP staffers we might be able to spare or give interest in such. It'll be like an entirely new faction in itself. IC and RP wise, its not much of a big deal to add one or two for immersio if it permits, something related to the unique classes of Ordallia, perhaps. We have too much 'Passes' and 'Oasis'es as it is. XD

Besides, whoever said that they have to require staff time? That's what I don't get here.

What, are you talking about just giving a city a specific theme and then letting people RP with it?
Because, if that's the case, I see no problem with it. But people will likely expect staff time.

They could RP it themselves most likely, or one of the existing GMNPCs hang around that area for RP interaction. For now, yeah, we wont give players NPC staff to play with in such RP 'hubs' but give them the opportunity to develop their characters for example, as magick students or teachers. And basically to just flesh out the world we made. Let's agree on it being purely for RP and not for mechanics. With that said, let's get some city culture suggestions or places. Wizard Towers, Sand Rat's sietch hideouts, etc.

I have no problem writing more detailed city information. But this simply can't involve actual staff involvement or any form of rewards for RPing.

I have no problem writing more detailed city information. But this simply can't involve actual staff involvement or any form of rewards for RPing. It occurs to me now that this is a promise I'm absolutely not capable of fulfilling. There's too much worldbuilding and such to do. I can probably do descriptions for all of Romanda/Ordallia, but there's no way I'm doing everything in Ivalice too. And what I do write up will be about a paragraph per city. So, yeah.

I'll make sure to make a separate 'post' in the future map thread containing small paragraph descriptions of Ivalician towns and some from Ordallia and Romanda. I just need a push in the general direction, so I'll do it.

There's no worries about putting that kind of work load on yourself, Schwerpunkt. I know when there are not other pressing matters to attend to I would like to flesh out a bit of the RP side of the game myself. There will be plenty of us to make that all happen in due time.

Zeltennia Castle
Zeltennia is the last major hub of Ivalician trade and culture to the East; beyond their banners lie the mysterious and enigmatic Ordallian Empire. As such the city streets are decorated with art and architecture from both civilizations, however the native Western styles are more prominent. Traditional Ivalician-style buildings sit side-by-side with Eastern influenced structures, and both languages are spoken freely. Despite these shared flavors of identity, the mindset of the people of Zeltennia is far less communal.
For decades, the people of Zeltennia have been dealing with Ordallian incursions into the province. Though not as hotly contested as neigboring Zelamonia to the East, the territory has certainly seen its share of combat over the years. Most recently, the Dhalizun Host of Ordalia has besieged Zeltennia Castle, to overtake its walls and leave no other obstacle into Ivalice proper for the sopisticated Eastern armies to spill into.
As such, the people of Zeltennia are both physically and mentally tough. They are practical and conservative, and feel a closer kinship with each other than any other Ivalician society, through necessity of survival. Championing their fighting spirit are their vanguard knightly order, the Nanten. Led by a man the people call T.G. Cid, these brave and chivalrous gladiators spear head the Ivalician campaigns against Ordalia. With the Siege of Zeltennia entering its fourth year, the famed knighthood find themselves looking for cadets to answer the call of their homeland, to protects its walls from the imminent danger of the Ordalian Hosts...
