Overview and History
"And so with each God felled from the sky, so does magick anguish."
Spanning from Galtea in the east to Jylland in the west, Ordallia is one of the biggest continents in the land. Its arid sands and often harsh climate holds countless stories of kingdoms and heroes scattered throughout the millenia.
During the time of the 50 Years War the sundered western region of Jylland was home to the Kingdom of Ivalice and its heroes who changed the course of history.
Seven Kingdoms
More than a millenium before the time of the Beoulves and the Heirals there were several kingdoms and empires that dotted Ordallia; realms such as the gigantic Rozarrian Empire to the east; the Zelmoni City States; the northern Karsid Empire; the Moogle Capital of Goug, and the city-state of Fluorgis to name a few.
Of import, the region now known as Ivalice had seven kingdoms that all vied for the region, all with their own brand of cause and reasons. The time-honored knights of Gallione for example, wished to protect the land for an honorable cause while the Zeltennian Marcher Lords and their king wished only to be left on their own. Fovoham and its warlike tribes were led by a mighty leader similar to the Jarls of Romanda, while Limberry and Lionel kept to themselves. Lesalia mustered its great levied hoplites and grew rich from its valley and finally the Kingdom of Mullond lay eerily silent; its king scheming from behind his walls.
It was at this juncture when a young king with good intent, eager to end the wars and bring peace to a war-torn land prayed for help from divine intervention. He was given the means to do so when an evil showed itself, slew the king and went on a rampage slaughtering the people of Mullonde. Stories then tell of a 'Champion of Light' who travelled with his followers throughout the world to collect the zodiac stones. The heroes used the power of the stones and slew the monster of Mullond, bringing peace to the land at a high cost. What really happened, whether the stories were real or fabrication, was all but lost to time. Certain enough however, the wars were temporarily stopped when one such scourge of God ran rampant throughout the land, at least for a little while.
The Empire of Light
Centuries after, the Holy Ydoran Empire was formed from the ashes of Mullonde and Lionel. Prior to this, Pharist missionaries and priests had started moving in from Galtea, Dalmasca and other regions in the east with their ships and airships, intrigued by the stories of the demon from Limberry that fit the Galtean stories regarding the Zodiac Braves.
After cleansing the palace of Mullonde of lingering death they rebuilt the palace in the Galtean style and became a grand structure which towered southern Ivalice. The people, looking for guidance and leadership, insisted the Church take over and guide the land into an era of peace and growth. The commoners, tired of the wars, were easily converted into the religion and with the influx of people into Southern Ivalice the church, known for its philosophy of reaching out through kindness, grew rich with power.
The Kiltia of Mullonde and his priests, wanting more power for themselves, eventually broke off into isolation from the main sect and proclaimed their own branch of Pharism. Proclaiming that the hero of Mullonde and his braves must always be there to guide and protect Ivalice, they proclaimed one of their loyal knights, Marius I, as a descendant of one of these braves and named him Emperor of Holy Ydora under the guidance of the Pharist Church. With him and 12 of his knights chosen as his generals, the legend of the Braves was revived. Vowing to unite Ivalice and bring an era of peace, the Braves, along with zealous new recruits from Mullonde and Lionel set their sights north to other kingdoms of Ivalice.
It was at this point when the conflicts in Ivalice once more began to erupt in earnest, with Lesalia and Ydora at the forefront. Battles were fought on land, sea and air as Ydora gained more and more control of the Jylland region.

Religion in Ivalice
Church of Fara (Pharism)
Pharism is one of the oldest religions in the continent, predating even the Cataclysm. It is literally the Church of Light, with Fara being a most ancient word for it. It is centered around a polytheistic worship of a pantheon of gods including its head Faram the Father God of Light, Zomala the Time God and the worldly saints, to name a few. The religion was started on top of Mt. Bur-Omisace in the region now known as the Orient by the very first Saint, the Prophet Kiltia and has spread to all the corners of the world in different variations. Though Mount Bur remains a shadow of its former self since the death of one of its Gran Kiltias at the hands of one of the Archadian judges and subsequently the great Cataclysm, Pharism has persisted through localized versions of different regions, sometimes with twisted interpretations.
In Ivalice it was the prevalent religion during the time of unification and while the religion itself tends to stray away from politics, Ydora was formed from the blessing of the Kiltia of Mullonde. The Emperor and the Kiltia were the central figures of the empire, producing their own brand of saints and martyrs. The church's white marble acropoleis spread across the land in all its glory. Signs of its Ydoran and Pharist architecture still persist in places such as Nelveska or at the Grand Temple at Mullonde whose influence goes further back to Galtean influences.
The religion has mostly been replaced by the Church of Glabados and its church which enjoys the support of the populace and even its government. Zelmonian Pharism still persists in a convoluted state thanks to Ordallian persistence of its Prophet-King. Pharism is still widely practiced in other lands however and the Light of Kiltia endures to this day.
Church of Glabados (Ajoranism)
Shortly after the event only vaguely known as the Cataclysm, many families who had witnessed Ajora Glabados' death....
The Church is a monotheistic religion which considers only Faram as the one true God with Ajora Glabados as his divine son and his followers as the only saints. Linking the stories of the Zodiac Braves from ancient Galtea and the demonic incidents that have happened in Ivalice's past, the Church has proclaimed Ajora as the one true Champion of Light with his followers as his saints, arriving to save the land whenever an evil threatens it.
From the old acropolis of Mullonde, the High Confessor, the leader of the church oversees his flock with the Knights of the Shrine carrying out his will. Its symbol is similar to that of a letter T, an ancient cross from which Ajora hanged on Golgollada. Statues in churches throughout Ivalice often depict an elderly Faram annointing or mantling Ajora as the champion and savior of mankind.
The Fara Church considers Ajora to merely be a priest who used his foresight and 'tricks' to sway the masses and gain popularity among the people of Ivalice. When he was alive he pushed his radical ideals proclaiming Faram as the one true God.
